The OC has always been known for its amazing season endings, but in its disappointing third season, the show seems to be taking another approach to its season finale. In the first two seasons the episodes before the season finale (The Strip & Under The OC) have been amazing episodes that convey exactly what the show is about. But in this season the episode, like the others, managed to be a major downer. We have many problems here.

First, there is the whole Kirsten and Sandy dilemma. They are fighting constantly and Kirsten is heading back towards alcohol. Why would Kirsten, the woman who could stand on her own, all of a sudden need Sandy? She never needed him before and always could stand on her own. And Sandy is fairing to well either. He’s becoming well…Caleb. Simple as that. I was hoping that maybe Sandy would die the same way Caleb did a season ago just for the irony but then thought that there was no way it would ever happen in this disappointing season.

Next, there is the fantastic four. (Marissa, Ryan, Seth and Summer) As I look back at the last two seasons, each of the characters has changed dramatically. Seth was the good nerd boy in the pilot but now is going to jail for smoking pot. Summer was the annoying bitch no one could trust in the pilot but now is the sweet girl who actually has a brain and a heart. Ryan was a bad ass from Chino in the pilot but now is even more goody goody than Seth and still has a thing for Theresa. And Marissa? She’s practically all of the characters that were killed off in the last two seasons put together. And that’s definitely not who she was at the beginning of the show.

Last but not least is this ever so lasting death thing. I am calling it a thing because I can't find any other words to describe it. It’s just a little bit over the top and really becoming a nuisance. Just as we begin to enjoy or hate a character, what happens to them? THEY DIE! It’s a little bit ridiculous. The way these deaths are occurring is also losing its touch. Caleb had a heart attack and fell in a pool while Julie deciding she loved him and took a shot = good. Johnny got drunk and slipped off a cliff = not so much. In the last two seasons alone, over ten people have left or been killed off the show. And now they are saying that in the season finale one of the major characters is going to be killed off! What’s up with that?! There aren't any lesser characters to kill? Wait…there really isn't.

So as we head into the season, should be series, finale, we see the Seth is in jail, Ryan and Marissa aren't together, Summer isn't doing anything, Julie is on the verge of another marriage to a really rich guy and Sandy and Kirsten are on the edge of a divorce. Now who said that the show was losing its melodramatic touch?
