The OC has always been known for it’s incredible music selection and without a doubt has one of the best soundtracks on TV next to Grey’s Anatomy (which has the same Musical Supervisor as The OC). The show this season may have played a new style of alternative that isn’t that common. For example, Syd Matters, electric president and Tunng. Each of those is a new style alternative.
The show did have a few surprise tracks that truly blew me away. One of these tracks was the new version of California [California 2005 (No Whistling)] which I have now come to love. But the one group that truly surprised me the most on this season was without a doubt Youth Group who I had not heard of before this season. There music is amazing and I have come to love them. Bloc Party also is amazing.
Next is the stuff I didn’t like. I didn’t like the new version of "Hallelujah" by Imogen Heap done for the season finale. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s a capella or because it just didn’t work but no matter what, it wasn’t good. I also hated the random hip-hop/dance that was thrown in. Such as Bossy and Paul Oakenfold. I just didn’t think it flowed with the show, even if it was at the bait shop, which should’ve also been cut out.
But there was one thing that blew me away about this seasons music. They managed to keep me wanting more and better music. I didn’t feel that way last season or the first season. This season, I actually wanted to know what would happen next, music wise, rather than drama wise. The music was better than the actually show this season. Maybe next season they’ll have a blank screen and just play music. That way we don’t have to think of what has happened to one of our favorite shows.
